The centre has a wonderful group of volunteer drivers, allowing clients to get to and from the centre from across Cornwall - the service is co-ordinated by Fred and Steve.
Before retiring in 2004, Fred worked as a Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driving Examiner. “Getting people to the centre for appointments means we are up against real time constraints, but working out the logistics is part of the fun. We have a real laugh, both with each other and with those, we transport. It’s why I do it,” he said
Steve, who as a Heavy Goods Vehicle driver for 27 years has spent most of his life on the road, came to Merlin six months ago. He admits that he knew very little about the charity before volunteering, but now feels “part of the family.”
“It’s such a fulfilling role, I really enjoy meeting new people and I get real satisfaction from providing a safe and comfortable journey for centre users.”
If transportation to and from the centre is difficult, Merlin MS Centre has two vehicles both fully adapted to meet our centre users needs which covers the length of the county Monday-Friday.
The service is extremely popular and spaces are limited.
Please call the centre on 01726 885530 and ask to speak to Fred.
