“When I had to give up work it would have been very easy to get stuck in a rut and feel sorry for myself. Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose outside of family life. It makes me feel good that I am using my time to help others and I am a meaningful member of society. The Centre has such a positive atmosphere and has given me the confidence to know it is okay to just be me.
Kayla’s work and impact
Kayla volunteers a morning a week in the volunteer-run onsite café. Using her previous hospitality experience means she quickly took to the role which sees her, making and serving a variety of breakfasts, lunches and speciality teas and coffees to Centre Users. The café is a really important facility at the Centre acting as a hub for social interaction for many people a friendly face like Kayla and the other cafe volunteers is really important.
